Default Introduction Image

NDU has been made aware of concerns from teachers and school support professionals across the state regarding school safety issues, especially those related to violent, aggressive and inappropriate student behaviors.  This presentation will focus on the rights of teachers who face these difficult circumstances.  NDU Legal Counsel, Mike Geiermann, will cover North Dakota Century Code and school district policy related to teachers rights and student conduct issues.

Michael J. Geiermann is a graduate of the University of North Dakota in 1981 with a degree in secondary education, and obtained his law degree from UND in 1984.  He worked as an Assistant Attorney General in the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office in 1984 – 1987, where he was primarily assigned to the Department of Public Instruction.  Since 1987, he has represented the North Dakota Education Association and its successor, North Dakota United.

This presentation is primarily focused on raising the awareness of dealing with disruptive students in all settings and teachers’ rights and responsibilities in dealing with those students.
