Sadly, it is time to offer our absolute best wishes to three resolute North Dakota United members as they leave our ND United Board of Directors.
Jamie Eriksson, who represented Higher Education Support Staff, has retired from her position at Mayville State University after many years of dedicated service. Jamie has well earned her retirement and will no doubt enjoy spending more time with her friends and family.
NDU Ethnic Minority Director, Marcelo Campoverde, has taken a position with the Crookston (Minn.) Public Schools and so will be leaving our Board. While we will miss him, I am sure NDU’s loss will be Education Minnesota’s gain.
Brooklyn Schaan, who represented PK-12 educators working in schools with less than 600 students, has left the profession to pursue other opportunities. She will, no doubt, find success in her new endeavors.
All of us at ND United wish each of them an extremely rewarding future and thank them for their outstanding service to others!
Of course, that means that we must fill these open positions on the ND United Board of Directors! We hope that YOU will consider serving on our Board. Here is some valuable information for you to know:
The commitment of our Board members is obvious in the time they give to our organization. We have at least seven board meetings per year. Five of the meetings occur during the school year and three are face-to-face. The face-to-face April meeting begins at 1:00 p.m. Friday and ends Saturday afternoon. The other face-to-face Board meetings usually require travel to the host city (usually Bismarck) on a Friday evening, while the meeting lasts most of the day on Saturday.
ND United will pay for your mileage, lodging, meals and incidental expenses related to your service on the Board. In addition, Board members receive a $300 yearly technology allowance to help you communicate with the constituency group you represent.
We hold NDU-sponsored meetings and conferences during the school year that require Board member attendance. During the summer months, NDU, NEA and AFT offer valuable opportunities that Directors are strongly encouraged to attend. By virtue of your service on the Board, you are automatically a delegate to the NEA Representative Assembly and the AFT Convention, should you choose to attend.
Board members are expected to communicate with locals/chapters in their constituency group and report at the Board meetings. Board members will also assist in local association/chapter development and engagement.
If you are a member of one of the constituency groups listed above and are interested in serving, please send a brief biography and a paragraph detailing why you would like to serve on the NDU Board of Directors by Sept. 20, 2022. If you have further questions, please contact me at your convenience at 701-223-0450 or nick.archuleta@ndunited.org. Please cc Ellie Sharbono at ellie.sharbono@ndunited.org.
Best Always,
Nick Archuleta
