Each year at this time, educators across the country are preparing to celebrate Read Across America, the nation’s largest celebration of reading! Read Across America was first launched in 1998 by the National Education Association. This year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships and reading resources that are about everyone, for everyone.

North Dakota United, in partnership with NEA, wants to help you celebrate Read Across America in your own special way! This year, we are again offering $500 grants to our local affiliates to plan extraordinary reading celebrations in your communities. Last year, these grants were used to support some spectacular events, including:

  • Reading is DINO-MITE Month in Center-Stanton!
  • Fun superhero-themed activities in Fairweather!
A folktale-themed family reading night in Kenmare!
  • A book-tasting event at Sunrise Elementary in Bismarck!
  • Dr. Seuss birthday party events in West Fargo & Grand Forks!
  • Classroom reading events at Theodore Roosevelt & Red Trail Elementary Schools in Mandan!

To receive a $500 ND United for Reading grant for your local association, just fill out this simple form on our website on what ideas your members have for events to celebrate Read Across America this year. We’ll select five of the best ideas to receive grant funding AND we will provide you with books celebrating diversity to give to students at your events!

  • Tell us about the event you would like to host in your community for Read Across America Day, and how you would use the $500 NDU RAA Grant if it was awarded to you.
