Here are a few things of interest that caught my eye this week:
On September 8, 30% of the 637 new COVID-19 cases in ND were contracted by people under the age of 20. It is increasingly clear that the Delta variant is impacting young people at a rate higher than the initial iteration of this virus did.
If you have not done so already, please consider getting vaccinated. This is not a political statement. Rather it is a public health request. We all share our work and learning spaces, so we all have a responsibility to keep those spaces as safe as possible.
It is no secret that behavioral health is an important issue for many school districts in North Dakota. In many districts, we do not have enough counselors or social workers to meet the needs of students and families.
That is why it is welcome news that both Fargo and West Fargo school districts will be adding behavioral case managers to their respective districts. They are able to do so through a joint venture with Nexus path Family Healing. You can read about it here.
“I Strengthen My Nation” Art Challenge
I want to share with you an excellent opportunity for Native American youth, aged 14-25, to participate in the “I Strengthen My Nation” art challenge. There are actually two challenge competitions, and some 25 prizes will be awarded. Through this competition, Native youth can share, through their art, their ideas about how their unique cultures can protect against substance misuse. Here is the information on how to apply.
Meeting with Locals
Finally, I had the pleasure of traveling to several local education associations and meeting with their leadership teams. I would love to come to yours, too! I will be reaching out to local association leaders to arrange visits and look forward to seeing you soon!
Be well and thank you for your membership in North Dakota United!
