The National Education Association and North Dakota United have partnered with Fargo Education Association to have five member organizers in Fargo. Their main objective is strengthening their local through one-on-one conversations, recruiting new members and identifying new local leaders.
So far this year, they have also been involved in organizing actions around FEA’s negotiations with their school board. Several of them are engaged in hosting meetings in each building in the district to discuss the value of belonging to FEA, and to also educate members and potential members on the status of negotiations and how they can get involved. Meetings have been held in over 15 buildings, so far.
Member Organizers have also worked with FEA leaders and building reps on mapping and charting their work sites. They have used that exercise to organize a “Red for Ed” drive to encourage members to wear red and/or FEA shirts on the same day, Oct. 3, to show support for the lawsuit that FEA filed against the school board for declaring impasse unilaterally.
Below are pictures of the Red for Ed photos that the FEA posted on their Facebook page. If you haven’t already, please go there and give their page a like! Also, if you are a Facebook user, you can add a Red for Ed frame to your own profile picture! Just click “Update” on your profile picture, then “Add Frame” and search for “Red for Ed NDU.” Help NDU and FEA to demonstrate our collective support for public education in our state!
