Greetings!
Fall is here, classrooms and teachers have begun their 2020-2021 school year, with many different protocols and start dates, and we ask … “Where did the summer go?!”
November will soon be upon us and time to vote for many positions. I am reminded of a famous quote from Abraham Lincoln:
THE BALLOT IS STRONGER THAN THE BULLET!
The committee of NEA-Retired Leaders and members have a plan, Get 10 For Public Ed, and YOU are an essential part of it. We ask YOU to please do the following:
- Choose ten (10) people that you want to work with to be sure that they vote. It could be family, friends, colleagues, sorority and fraternity sisters and brothers, people you know from church, clubs, and the community.
- Please inform each of these ten (10) people to make their ballot count!
- Vote early
i. Request a Mail-in ballot
ii. Mail it through the USPS by mid-October or
iii. Take it to the township/county office. - OR… Vote in person on Tuesday November 3, 2020
- Ask your ten people to find ten more people who will discover their ten, and so forth.
VOTING IS THE RIGHT ON WHICH ALL OTHER RIGHTS DEPEND.
What’s at stake for Retirees?
President: Whoever is president in 2021 will set the nation’s economic agenda and decide whether to sign legislation Congress passes and sends to his desk.
Senators and members of the House of Representatives: They will have the power to pass legislation that would help stop age discrimination, sick leave, unemployment insurance, and Medicare funding, and support Public Education.
North Dakota Legislature seats: They decide many important decisions that are high interest issues for our retirees.
A lot is at stake that is why your vote is important for Medicare funding that must continue to provide access to quality and affordable health care for our retirees with affordable prescriptions and premiums.
We also must ensure that all have access to enough health care providers. It is also a high priority to cast a vote that supports our Public Education.
GET THOSE 10 PEOPLE OUT TO VOTE!
THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS A VOTE THAT DOESN’T MATTER. IT ALL MATTERS.
Stay Safe, Be Well, AND….Don’t Forget To Vote!
RESPECTFULLY YOURS,
Karen Askerooth
North Dakota United-Retired President
